About Timaree Hagenburger, The Nutrition Professor

Who is The Nutrition Professor?

Timaree Hagenburger, MPH, RDN, LD/N, EP-c

My name is Timaree Hagenburger, and I LOVE FOOD and I am CRAZY about PLANT-BASED WHOLE FOOD!!!

I grew up as a little Italian girl cooking with my mom and grandparents… I also LOVE nutrition, learning about the body, health, wellness, mindset, exercise, biology, physiology, psychology and more! Many years ago, when my husband and I talked about a “business name” for me, he said, “That is easy, The Nutrition Professor – it is not only what you do, but really who you are!”

Whether in my classroom with my college students discussing the contributors to insulin resistance, demonstrating a technique during a virtual cooking demo in my Foodie Bar Way of Life community, in the produce area of the supermarket helping an unsuspecting shopper differentiate between parsley and cilantro (big mistake to bring home the “wrong” one), or on the sidelines of the soccer field connecting with a fellow mom about ways to include more legumes in the family meals, I constantly find ways to help other by sharing my knowledge about the power of plants and how to prepare them in simple and delicious ways! It truly gives me life and fills my soul! You need to know that I also “walk the talk” – so you can find me eating nourishing plant-based whole food (that loves me back), moving my body every day in ways that keep me strong and feeling energized, staying hydrated and prioritizing physical and mental self-care.

I AM THRILLED to have created an innovative and engaging cookbook, The Foodie Bar Way: One meal. Lots of options. Everyone’s happy. It is a refreshing approach to having plant-based food that loves you back, at your fingertips! I wrote it with my college students in mind. They often tell me that they don’t have time, money or experience in the kitchen… and The Foodie Bar Way meets them where they are and provides plenty of options to accommodate insane schedules, and keeps the pickiest of eaters looking forward to the next meal! It is available as an Ebook and a full-color, 303 page, printed book at www.FoodieBars.com

I am sooooooo fortunate to be able to do what I love for my career… and a new chapter has just begun! I have taken the knowledge, skills and experience through my work as an extremely active, full-time nutrition professor for nearly two decades, (including serving as a Teaching and Learning Lead, Co-Chair of the Sustainability Committee, cofounder of the Plant-Based Nutrition and Sustainable Agriculture certificate program and founder/advisor of the Thrive On Plants Club at Cosumnes River College), and created an online community that eliminates the geographic and schedule-related limitations!  Instead of hearing, “Oh, I wish that I could take one of your classes at the college, but…” I can invite you into The Foodie Bar Way of Life! Our incredible online membership community makes loving the food (and living a life) that loves us back… simple, satisfying, sustainable AND FUN!

As a testament my love for educating and inspiring people to harness the power of nutrition and wellness practices beyond my local community, I’ve had the honor of speaking across the nation (from Florida to Alaska, and even Hawaii!). I’ve written articles for my local newspapers and have had a BLAST being featured in nearly 50 California Bountiful TV segments (we start at the Farmers’ Market where I explain how to shop for a particular fruit or veggie and why, and then we go into my kitchen to cook with what I picked out). These segments air on 31 stations throughout California and nationwide on satellite stations, and you’ll often see replays (maybe even when you are at the gym or a family member’s house with the TV on!). You can find me doing web and TV appearances, too (Chef AJ Show, Nutmeg Notebook, Studio40, etc.).

I also get to pour my heart into working with a select number of private clients, am the dietitian for the Plant-Based Nutrition Support Group (PBNSG), conduct local and virtual events as well as corporate wellness work, serve on the Plant-Based Prevention of Disease Executive Board, and have contributed to several cookbooks, including PBNSG’s Perfectly Plant-Based cookbook, Andrew Taylor’s Spud Fit Cookbook and my OWN cookbook (as well as published a season of MY OWN podcast)!

I am also a certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine and I have run many half marathons and two full-length marathons (running across the Golden Gate Bridge was on my bucket list… DONE via the SF Marathon!). I am proud to be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and have been an active member of the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (and contributed to their VN Newsletter for 7+ years), as well as served on the executive boards of the Northern Area Dietetic Association and Slow Food Lodi.

I ABSOLUTELY cherish opportunities to connect with those around me to share my knowledge and passion for food, cooking, physical activity, wellness and optimal quality of life. I love to combine fun and practicality, offering strategies and inspiration for finding pleasure in preparing and partaking in nourishing meals.

While my Foodie Bar Way of Life community, coaching and wellness work are my passions, I also have experience working in a variety of practice settings as a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) ranging from the acute care hospital (with surgical and general medicine patients) and ambulatory clinics (outpatient counseling for diabetes, weight management, hypertension, etc.), to community nutrition (developing nutrition education materials/curriculum and counseling high risk pregnant and postpartum women, infants and children through WIC) and performing medical nutrition therapy for renal patients (dialysis center). I have worked for the State of California at the WIC Branch performing program evaluations throughout the State, developing nutrition education materials and writing policy.

I completed my undergraduate work, a bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science, at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Shout out to Cal Poly SLO!). My dietetic internship was performed at the West Los Angeles VA facility while simultaneously completing my master’s degree in Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles. I am also a Certified Dietitian Nutrition Coach.

Aside from spending time with my family and friends, running and exercising with my buddies and sharing practical information about optimizing health and quality of life through nutrition and physical activity, developing new recipes (and cooking up a storm) are my favorite things to do! My kitchen is definitely one of my “happy places”!

It means the world to me when students and clients tell me how they are putting what they have learned about nutrition and fitness into practice and realizing health benefits for themselves and their families!

In the words of my private clients:

I swear the little Timaree that lives in my head keeps me SANE!!”

“I feel much better! I put things into perspective after our zoom and put your advice to work and it helped me so much, thank you!”

“You are literally saving my life!”

“I wouldn’t be this far without your help and for that I will be forever thankful! Your presence in my life has made a HUGE difference and I am grateful to have met you, even under the circumstances we meet under (diagnosed with diabetes). Because of you, now I see all this as a blessing! My mind has expanded to a new understanding of not just eating, but of living! Thank you for being so great, thank you for all your help and support. You truly are changing people’s lives!!”
