Nearly seven years passed between the time when my husband and I decided that we wanted to transform our front yard landscaping into an “all edible” extravaganza and the project was “finished enough” to start planting!

Before the demolition, the yard looked like this…

We don’t have any pictures of the years in between, as it was a sight that we weren’t exactly proud of!

SOOO many years of using the garage as our way in and out of the house…

SOOO many years of dirt piles my only view out our kitchen window…

BUT, those times are simply a fuzzy memory! I am RIDICULOUSLY grateful for all of the work my husband did to transform our “average” front yard, into a wonderland of produce!

Ever since he finished the “infrastructure” during the summer of 2020, in part due to a forced break from coaching soccer related to the pandemic, neighbors walking by are excited to see what is growing (I don’t know if anyone had faith that it would get done)!

As you can see, we only have a few planter boxes open to the ground, that my husband constructed out of cinder blocks covered in tile. We have everything else growing in raised boxes (we purchased several from Costco that are self-watering and LOVE THEM), pots, felt grow bags (we purchased online for $1-3 each!) and wine barrels.

You truly don’t need an acre of land… When there is a will, there is a way to stop watering your lawn and start growing your own food!
